Stephanie Smith

Stephanie Smith is happiest covered with ink stains and cat hair. She specializes in nature and fantasy artwork in a variety of media with an emphasis on storytelling and realistic accuracy, and loves collaborating with authors and experts to weave visuals and narratives together for both audiences of all ages. She works in both digital and traditional media, and can vary her style when appropriate to the needs of a project. 

For 19 years she was an illustrator and graphic designer for NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, producing educational materials about astronomy and technology that ranged from interactive websites to animation to comic books and more, for audiences from adults to schoolchildren. Stephanie received a double major in Studio Art and English from Goucher College, and completed an MFA in Illustration from Towson University. She has exhibited in both formal and non-traditional gallery spaces, and also sells her work online through online partners at her Critterwings store. She currently lives in Maryland where she is working on a few writing projects including picture books as well as her artwork. She is available for client work and is currently seeking representation.
